J. B. sent the following email after the Fort Wayne School...

"Since we all had the pleasure of learning from Gearld (Fry) and Steve (Campbell), I have begun to practice some of the skills taught and use some of their recommendations in regards to mineral.  As I expressed at the seminar and so did some of you, pinekeye has been a thorn in my side the last 3 years.  When I went to the conference, I probably had 30 cases of active Pinkeye. This is in a herd of around 200 or more total animals.  I had 5 completely blind animals.
When I returned home, I didn't have access to everything I needed to completely start the mineral program.  I did have some Kansas Sea Salt, so I thought I would start with Steve's mineral water solution. Once again I didn't have a big enough tub so I used a 20 gallon mineral tub.  Instead of using a bucket, I just put 10 pounds in and stirred it up.  It was all gone the next day.  For the next week I went through 1 to 2 of these per day.  Within that week all Pinkeye in the animals that had access to the mineral water was halted.   Four of the blind animals recovered enough sight to get around pretty well.  The fifth is still blind and hasn't had mineral water (test case I guess).  I am now using a 50 gallon rubber maid tank and I put about 20 pounds of salt in it.  They go through 1 a day with maybe a touch unfinished.  Other side benefits seem to be even shinier coats and the best of all very intense heat signs (Steve believes my conception rates will get even better)."

Speaking

Steve has been around cattle his whole life. With an "OLD" view of how things work in nature, he brings insight that stretches the envelope of conventional thinking.

Among his many speaking engagements, Steve has spoken at Acres USA, Moses, American Herbataurus Society Conference, North American Devon Association, Red Devon USA, 6th National Grazing Lands Conference, Northern Plains Sustainable Agriculture Society, Utah - Arizona Grazing Conference, and the Keynote Speaker for the 21st annual GrassWorks Grazing Conference.

Join Steve Campbell for lectures on, but not limited to, the following topics:

~ Bull and Cow FERTILITY and how to observe and measure these traits
~The RED SOLO CUP Cow: She 1) Sheds early, 2) Shaped like a red solo cup turned sideways, and 3) has butterfat indicators you can learn to read. Those animals rebreed more years in a row and cost less to feed than the average cow!
Minerals, Toxins and ranch Epi-Genetics: a rancher's ideas to low-cost, on-farm solutions

~ Linear Measures: How to measure and which measurements to take on an animal. How will these numbers help you to make selection and culling decisions for more grass efficient animals that breed back more often.
SOIL, Plant Animal and Human health: Diving into how our soil practices affects everything up the food chain and eventually affects human health ... for positive or negative.
Profit hiding in plain sight: How selection for animals with butterfat, lower maintenance costs, calving in-sync with nature, fetal programming and concentrating on meat-to-bone ratio with your direct-marketed animals can dramatically influence your profit at the end of the year.
~ Live animal demonstration where possible.
YOUR QUESTIONS

Good evening Steve, just wanted to thank you for the eye opening presentations you put on these two nights, and the previous one about cattle. It was so informative, and is such valuable information that I can't thank you enough for taking the time to do these. Your insight makes so many light bulbs go off while listing to you. Being able to understand how things work and what we as producers are looking at gives us the tools to make better decisions for our operation. Like the saying goes you don't know what you don't know! We have started down the path of regenerative farming so listening to your explanations of these relationships in the ecosystem are so memorizing. I'm fascinated by how much the land and cattle can tell you if you know what you're looking for. Thanks again and take care!

Steve, congrats on the upcoming speaking engagement. And thank you so much for the life-line with baking soda and the salt tanks. I have 10 salt tanks currently going. It's a full time job keeping up with the consumption but I'd much rather fill them than gather to treat pink eye. One bottle of draxxin buys a lot of salt. The only group that had a pinkeye problem is my first calf hfr calves. Not surprising. This group is eating soda but not utilizing the salt water tank. It takes time for them to learn. I have never needed an enticer with the soda. The cows eagerly consume it.

I feel extremely blessed that I live close to the independent salt co of kanapolis and my feed mill gets soda from rifle, Colorado.
I'll end this now but I want you to know you have my grateful thank you for doing podcast 196 (
Working Cows with Clay Conery). The benefits of a saltwater tank and free choice soda are life changing for my cattle and me. And it's not of short duration. It positively influences the next calf crop and the over-all health of the herd. I feel like I won the lottery with a ton of salt and soda!”
