It has been brought to my attention that there are a number of different ways to make mineral water for livestock with.
Why mineral water. It makes the minerals 2.5 to 3 times as bio-available and it is only 3.5% sodium chloride (the rest winds up as residual in the tea bag.
Some work, quite a few do not!!!
In addition to any mineral program you are currently on, here is what I know works.
EVERY-OTHER-DAY
Day one, in your NON-METAL water tank that has a float, put “X” amount of sea MINERAL salt in a “tea bag” (woven nylon feed sack) and place the “tea bag” in the stock tank in the morning of day one. The next morning, pull it out and if you pour out 1/10th “X” … you guessed the amount of Sea MINERAL salt correctly. If there was no UNUSED sea salt when you dumped out the tea bag, you did not put in enough. f you dumped out 1/2 of what you started with, you put in too much.
Day TWO is no tea bag (WE ARE BACK TO FRESH WATER … A MUST).
Day three it is time for the tea bag and the corrected amount of Sea MINERAL salt.
Day four back to fresh water.
There are are 50 “it depends” version of this, but start out with 50# of Sea MINERAL Salt on day one and see how much you pour out The next morning. Adjust the amount of Sea MINERAL Salt accordingly for the beginning amount for the day three start in the tea bag.
I have put out other versions of this (and they work IF DONE CORRECTLY}. This is all I want to say about MINERAL WATER publicly because I feel in the past I have confused quite a few people trying to give an “Optimum Solution” for individual ranches in a public setting.
… JUST IN … Central South Dakota …
Mineral water calmed down some agitated cows within 2 hours!!!!!!
One thing about this method … in the winter, every-other-day you will have less ice to chop.
